Virginia Beach Shooting
The Virginia Beach community was shocked last week when there was a shooting at a Virginia Beach municipal building. In total, there were twelve victims who died as a result of the shooting. Luckily, the perpetrator of the shooting was also killed by the police. Unluckily, there were also a half-dozen people who were also injured.
The shooter was a city employee, who worked as a public utilities employee for fifteen years. The shooter submitted his resignation on the morning of the shooting. The shooter used two legally purchased .45 caliber handguns.
This incident has highlighted a growing and perpetual problem in American society. Throughout the past couple years, there have been an increasing amount of shootings. Many of these shootings are preventable with legislations. There must be a stricter degree of gun control, and citizens and legislations must be willing to compromise and change the old Amendments of the Constitution. Additionally, we, as a society, must look out for one another and make sure nobody suffers from extremely negative mental health. There must be a two-pronged solution to this epidemic. One side must focus on gun control and the other one must focus on the state of public mental health.
