Why Cannabis Should Be Legal Nationwide

One of the most controversial topics in our nation over the past few years has been whether cannabis should be legalized. Marijuana is a drug that has been so looked down upon by our society over the years and is in some states considered a class 1 drug, meaning it is “illegal because they have high abuse potential, no medical use, and severe safety concerns”. In other states, it is legal for recreational use. Here is why cannabis should be legal nation wide.
1) It is proven to be safer than alcohol and tobacco. For as long as cannabis has been known to mankind, there has never been a recorded overdose. In 2010 alone, 25,692 people died from alcohol related causes. If alcohol and tobacco are legal, then there should be no reason to not legalize marijuana. In 2010, a team of drug experts from the U.K. tested the "Harm Caused By Drugs" which includes harm to users and harm to others and they concluded that alcohol well fell below the alcohol and tobacco totals.
2) THC and CBD which are the most known components of marijuana are used to alleviate many medical ailments and a sleep aid. THC can treat insomnia and has been reported to help with a more restful sleep. CBD helps with arthritis, muscle soreness, and is even used in lotion. Both THC and CBD have also been capable of helping the recovery process in injuries.

  1. I agree with you that the danger of weed is vastly overstated, and that it has benefits that people don't pay enough attention to. And I think that's proven when you look at all the legalizations over the past few years, and how many more there are to come. Even very conservative states have begun to pass laws for medical marijuana, the first step before total legalization. To counter, I don't believe that weed is harmless, and I think people in California, etc. don't recognize the very real downsides it has because they're so excited about legalization. People do get addicted to weed, it does decrease your neurological function if you use it too much, and whatever; those are still facts, although they shouldn't justify a ban of marijuana.

  2. Weed should be legal because of the tax income that can be used to help out states in places where they need it. Weed is a fun happy drug compared to some of these dark evil opioids that are causing people to kill themselves.
