UN Report a million species facing extinction

The U.N. has recently released a report claiming that in the 6th mass extinction is causing 100 million species to go extinct. Biodiversity is super important to our environment and the more species going extinct means the more problems will appear. If one little animal goes extinct it could set off a chain reaction in the environment causing many other species to have to adapt and change so that they can survive and not go extinct also.

The news report breaks it down into five main factors.

1. changes in sea and land levels
2. exploitation of different organisms
3. climate change
4. pollution
5. Invasive Species

The biodiversity crisis also means we’re potentially setting ourselves up for a food crisis.
The report says "Fewer and fewer varieties and breeds of plants and animals are being cultivated, raised, traded and maintained around the world.” If a disease were to wipe them out, we couldn’t necessarily turn to nature to find new sources of food.

Protect the environment at all costs!

  1. Wow that graph is scary with such intense increases in extinction. I feel like a lot of people don't understand the affects of our own actions on the environment. Billions of species have been lost over the past couple decades due to humans. I think it's hard for people to truly understand because they may not feel or even see the affects, but just looking up the numbers of how many species have gone extinct is insane. This is an important topic to bring up Christian, people definitely need to start talking about issues like this more so we can start making changes.

  2. Great blog post! Many people don't realize what is really happening to our environment so a bystander affect is taking place. Everyone is assuming that someone else will take care of it, or they simply just don't even believe that it is happening. People need to be aware of this issue and make a collective effort to change otherwise we may reach a point of no return which is definitely possible based off of the graph you included.
