Eric Reid and the potential NFL collusion
Since Kaepernick started kneeling during the national anthem a couple years back. Many have joined him in protest from NFL players, people in the stands and more. Eric Reid, former 49er safety and Kaepernick teammate, joined the expelled quarterback early on in the protest and continued strongly supporting the efforts publicly.
As many know. Kaepernick has still not been added to any NFL roster even though he is a perfect fit for those team's schemes and has the NFL talent and experience needed to even be a backup. Instead teams have chosen other quarterbacks that we have never heard of since they were signed. Kaepernick sued the NFL over these issues, feeling that the NFL has been colluding with team owners and GM's in order to prevent him from being in the league. With the incentive of many conservative fans who hate Kaepernick and potential collusion from the NFL Kaepernick has been ousted from his place in the NFL.
Althought Eric Reid hasnt faced as strong of a backlash for his involvement in the protests. He has reached out in frustration as he feels the NFL does want to keep him out as well. The NFL does random periodical drug tests multiple times a season to a random player on every NFL team. Eric Reid however has had the terrible luck of being drug tested several times over the course of the season, something that hardly ever happens, especially the frequency that it has with him. He was drug tested 6 times in 11 weeks on a roster where there are 52 other players that were not picked. That is an awful lot of times to get picked from a ratio of 1/53. Wether or not their is corruption or collusion there is no denying that many wish that players that voice their political and social opinions such as Kaepernick and Reid want them left out of the NFL.

Interesting thing for people for a nation to care about - don't you think? Like, what abaout global warming. I feel like that's a bigger problem than a football player taking a political stance. But that's just me, I should probably be less opinionated.
ReplyDeleteI think that the leadership position Kapernick has created is extremely important. Many people look up to him as an amazing athlete AND as someone speaking up against injustice in the US. I feel like he shouldn't even be worried about getting drafted by the NFL right now and should use the position that he has to continue fighting for issues he believes in. I understand he is upset that he is not playing, but he should be taking advantage of the spotlight he has created.
ReplyDeletePersonally it is easy for me to believe a collusion scandal because I know the mentality of some of these NFL owners and the backwardness of the league. Because of Kaepernick and Reid I hope that their mindset will change and they can be more accepting of all the players in the NFL.
