Sri Lanka Terror

The terrifying attacks in the Country of Sri Lanka took the lives of over 200 people, and injured another 400.  The attacks targeted churches and hotels.  Why do people do this?

The inhumane feelings towards a humans life are monstrous.  The disrespect of an entire culture to prove ones own existence to themselves is unfathomable.  How one group can terrorize an entire nation is unsettling.
The explosions occurred on April 21, 2019, Easter Sunday.  This is not an attack that happened 20 years ago.  At the same time people are building cars that can drive on their own, and phones that can fold in half, over 200 people that had families, jobs, and dreams died to one group with hatred on their minds.  I am not placing the blame on the nations that allow these groups of hate to continue, but the world, nation by nation, should make it clear that the murder of civilians through the actions of those who hold hate against them should never be tolerated.  I believe that not only the nation of Sri Lanka, but the world, needs to set an example out of these human beings who had no regard for human life.
In the nation of Sri Lanka itself, the actions that occurred were not deserved by the victims.  Several churches were targeted during the middle of mass, and one commentator said the church had "blood strewn across the pews, with bodies covered with sheets".  This is true terror.
With the seemingly increase in attacks motivated by hatred, I believe that everyone in the world must confront these evils with positivity, and for Sri Lanka, I believe that the only way for the nation to recover is to come back stronger than ever.

  1. This is an endless dilemma for a problem that is so urgent. It seems that we have a growing culture with these extremist groups to carry out acts of violence. I like how you said that this is not something to specifically blame on a set of countries as they are individual groups. Because if the US had groups like Eternal Atake and the Manson cult go oversees to carry out acts of terrorism and cause havoc these acts would not be pinned on the entire country. This unfortunately seems to be a growing issue with no solution in sight. How do you stop silent movements? How do you prevent future generations from having extremist groups with radical ideas?

  2. This makes me very uncomfortable, especially since I hadn't even known about these attacks until I read this post. Apparently this was an ISIS attack, and it shows that despite the fact that ISIS does not have any more territory, and less power than it used to, it can still kill many innocent people. The issue with these attacks of hate, however, is the question: what realistically can a government do? They can try to prevent further attacks, but they can't stop the attitude behind those attacks. A "war on terror" has been proven counterproductive, but I can't think of a better solution either.

  3. I think this bring up a big part of ISIS. Recently, they have less power compared to a few years back and they do not control as much territory as they used to. However, the attacks show that they still have the power to do what they want. I think we should start to question what the government is going to do about these killings. If we keep saying we are going to figure something out it would never happen and we would regret it when the next shooting happens

  4. The Sri Lanka Easter Attacks were devastating. Just today the death toll had been revised down by about a hundred people, the blame of this being a calculation error. Most of the people who were killed were Sri Lankans, but dozens of the foreigners were also casualties. Nine people in total were suspected of carrying out the attacks. The authorities blamed a local Islamist extremist group, National Thowheed Jamath (NTJ), soon after the blasts but say the bombers must have had outside help. The Islamic State group said it was behind the attacks and published a video showing eight men but provided no evidence of direct involvement.
