Japanese Chicanas
In Japan in the city of Nagoya, there is a very small subculture that express themselves as another race. Japanese women/ men in the chicana/o culture. One of the japanese women named Mona aka Sad Girl, got her name from the movie Mi Vida Loca. She and her friends base everything that do, from how they dress, eat and listen to music. When watching this small documentary by Connie Wang, I realized that these people are not cultural appropriating the chicana culture just because they have done their research on the culture and understand how and who began it. They are appreciating the culture and not disrespecting it. This is a lifestyle to them, not just a one time thing.
