Corruption Within the Democratic Leadership

Corruption Within the Democratic Leadership
An incredibly important issue is healthcare. 70 percent of the general population supports Medicare for all. This makes it a winning issues for Democrats since they have been positioning themselves as the party of working Americans. With this massive support one questions, why does the Democratic leadership not support Medicare for all?
One major reason is that they have had large campaign donations from “The Partnership for America’s Health Care Future”. This group is formed by large corporations who have paid for campaign ads, to warn against further disruptions to the healthcare system. Simply, this organization spreads misinformation about Medicare for all.
Richard Neal, a Democrat representative for Massachusetts stated, “We want to continue promoting the idea of accessibility and improving the Affordable Care Act. That should be the primary goal we have”. One may wonder why would a Democrat who would benefit greatly by supporting Medicare for all take such weak stance? Two large reasons are that Representative Neal has taken  $364,900 in donations from Private Insurance companies and $252,750 from Pharmaceuticals/Health Products. Despite this obvious conflict of interest the democratic leadership, specifically, Nancy Pelosi, made Neal the Chairman of the Ways and means committee, arguably the most important committee since it controls the budget.

This is the problem with our current democratic leadership, they take private money to win elections and then serve their donors. Sadly this is common practice. Lauren Crawford Shaver (who worked on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign and the health and human services department for the Obama administration) currently works for Forbes Tate Partners, a lobbying firm that fights against giving healthcare coverage to every American. And Eric Smith, a former Obama Campaign Aid, works for another lobbying firm.

  1. great post peter! i think it's really bad and should even be considered illegal for osme one to be paid to give their opinion on someyhing if it effects so many peopolpel's lives. Of course I don't mean things like endorsing a certain product or something but this all connects back to the central idea of Medicare. People around the United States are chooseing to believe these high level officals because thye are supposed to be the ones that are so knowledgeable onthe subejct, and they aren't wrong in doing so but they don't know the truth behind these people's "opinoins" and there should be some kind of legal action that can be pursued.
