The Next Genocide?
After events such as the Rwandan Genocide and the Holocaust, I wonder what we can do in the future in order to prevent these kinds of things. I think the first step in order to achieve this is to eliminate thoughts of racism. Although I do not think that this is totally possible, we could try to change the mindset of as many racist people in order for them to treat everyone as equals. Another step I think we could take is when a thought of extreme racism, such as the Nazi's towards the Jews comes up, then the other people need to stand up against the racist person. The main reason that the Holocaust occurred was because Hitler convinced multiple people to hate the Jews. If there are already people opposing against the idea, it will be much harder to spread the word and the racist people might also be afraid to share their thoughts with so many other opposers. Finally, to prevent another genocide I think that countries need to better their relationship with each other. Right now there are still tensions amongst other countries so I think we all need to stop being so aggressive to each other which would greatly reduce the possible cause of a future genocide.
I agree I think that we need to eliminate thoughts of racism which I would agree, I don't think it's totally possible because now we live in a difficult time where we see racism everywhere. I think changing the mindset of many racists is a way to prevent future genocides however, that might be difficult because people will have their own opinions and some won't change that no matter what we try to do. Although, I do agree with what you said about standing up to racists and standing up with people if they are ever being treated differently.
ReplyDeletegood point, hatred sometimes comes out of naturalistic pride. But I think with a quick thinking international security counsel, that genocides can be stopped in their tracks. Hatred will not go away but what can be done is intervening early to limit casualties.
ReplyDeleteI think you bring up a lot of interesting concepts and ideas that one utilize to possibly prevent genocide. However when you say " Hitler convinced multiple people to hate the Jews" that does not tell the whole story. Specifically, it leaves out the fact that many people already held antisemitic views. Rather, than convincing people to hate Jews be stoked their already present beliefs that Jews were hindering their life.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with that, Hitler was not the only anti Semitic leader in the Nazi party, Goebbels, Himmler and Heydrich were both very Anti Semitic. And they were the most ruthless brutal leaders of the Nazi party.
