How Are Juveniles Treated in the Prison System?
In the American prison system, there are many types of abuses that go on, including verbal, sexual, and physical. In juvenile hall, guards aren't usually that nice to prisoners. In Florida, staff at a juvenile detention facility "arranged violent bouts between youths and bribed them to beat up other young people. In South Carolina, the Justice Department has opened a civil rights investigation regarding deaths and assaults in the state's youth facilities." There was also a book written called Burning Down the House, which went into a huge amount of detail about the atrocities that go on in juvenile detention centers all over the country. This book gives an in-depth, raw look into the juvenile prison system, and takes the reader through juvenile detention centers with horrific abuse. Some examples of abuse in juvenile prisons include: "hanging children from their thumbs, the use of the 'ducking stool' for girls, severe beatings, solitary confinement, handcuffs, the 'ball and chain, etc." Overall, I think that it is important that more people become aware of the extreme and atrocious abuses that take place in juvenile facilities all over the country. The more people who know, the more likely it is that they will put a stop to it. We can do this, together!

Great blog post. I did not know about this. In the media we see stories from Vice News, about good juvenile prisons. Where kids are going to school, working in the barbershop etc. But a lot of that gets attention, while this does not. Atrocities do happen in juvenile prisons. The perpetrators deserve to be punished for these crimes.
