Kevin heart and the oscars

Kevin Heart is stepping down as the host of 2019's Oscars. To be a host probably meant so much to him and other comedians that wanted to see him take that stage and make everyone laugh their butts off during the show. This move came amid a mounting controversy after old tweets surfaced in which Hart expressed anti-gay sentiments and used homophobic terminology and slurs. At first he did not want to step down but the academy ended up giving him the choice to do it. He went to twitter and tweeted  "I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's....this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past." I have read some of his tweets that got him in trouble and I would not say they are the worst things ever as they do offend gay people. He used some inappropriate words to describe gay people and said he did not want his son to be playing with barbies. These are old tweets from 2011 and even though a lot of time has passed and people can change the Academy still said he had to step down from his host position. Its obvious to me that some saw him get the job then they went to find anything they could to attack and ruin it and they did just that. It also gets confusing when a comedian is doing this because some are not sure if he is cracking a joke or serious.

In his stand up previously he had been making similar jokes and later was criticized for promoting homophobic and dangerous parenting when making jokes about a gay son. This is really a grey area where it is hard to tell what is offensive so most say to stay away from it completely. Lots of people in the LGBQT community have attacked and ripped Kevin hearts name for his jokes and comments which goes to say watch what you say.

  1. This has been a very controversial thing for many famous people. Recently several tweets have resurfaced from the past, these people have been bashed and careers have been put at risk. I believe that people grow over the years and the remarks they made 10 years ago don't quite have anything to do with the people they are today as they have matured. Fans seem to dig up tweets as such out of boredom, solely for the purpose of entertainment.

  2. This whole old tweet scandal has done its rounds before, most famously with Director James Gunn, who was taken off of Guardians of the Galaxy for old tweets. While I do believe that people should be held accountable for their words and actions, we tend do go too far. These were tweets that were from years ago. A time where those kinds of jokes were more socially acceptable. On top of that, Kevin Hart didn't have the same kind of audience that he has now. I think this kind of mob mentality is embarrasing. We shouldn't be harping on tweets that happened years ago. It also brings up an unprecedented situation, where people are getting found out because of social media. In the past, people would say whatever messed up crap they wanted in the comfort of their own home, with no audience, and if they became famous, people would be none the wiser. However, due to the outrwach of social media, there are records of everything you tweet or comment.
