Columbia University Student's White Superiority Rant
Earlier this week, a white student at Columbia University began preaching on campus about the greatness and contributions of white people. The ironic thing was: the student was delivering his "sermon" to a group of people of color. During his speech, Columbia's campus in Upper Manhattan was empty due to the final exams that were taking place at the time. This white student's tirade comes less than two weeks after a Columbia professor's office had been vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti. The university's administrators criticized the student's incident as "deeply disturbing." Columbia University affirmed its opposing stance on white supremacist language and violence. In its statement released to the public, Columbia reaffirmed its support for those of any faith, race, gender, sexual orientation, background, or identity.
Currently, there is no news on whether or not the student has faced any disciplinary action, however, the university said that the institution was investigating the occurrence. Columbia University said it would create multiple groups from different biases to determine what punishment would be most appropriate for the student. Many minority students felt themselves to be in danger. In addition, many minority student groups has also insisted that the university take action in order to prevent similar situations on campus.
