The Murder of Jamal Khashoggi and why it matters

Jamal Khashoggi for those who don't know, was a Saudi Arabian journalist who was known for his descent pieces. He had been famously critical of Saudi Arabia's crown prince, Mohammad bin Salman, and the country's king, Salman of Saudi Arabia. Facing fear of his own life, he fled to Turkey. On 2 October 2018, Khashoggi entered the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul, he did not leave the building. Following this there were multiple reports that his body had been dismembered, with the fingers pointed at Saudi Arabia and it's Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Following much speculation, the CIA ultimately launched an investigation, concluding that the murder had been conducted by Saudi Arabia and its prince.
This was an atrocious crime committed by a powerful man in a position of power, a man who has been known to use his power to suppress others. Which is ultimately why Jamal Khashoggi  was murdered, because he ran his mouth. Now moving on to another person who runs their mouth,  President Trump. Following the death of Jamal khashoggi,  and the subsequent investigation by the CIA, when asked about what he thought about the murder he refused to blame the prince of Saudi Arabia. This fact is astounding because he blatantly refused to agree with what the Central Intelligence Agency had confirmed.
I think it is extremely important to stay up to date with the atrocities committed around the world, especially with those who are suppressed. I firmly believe we must hold people accountable for their actions, even if the president doesn’t.
