Police Brutality-How far is too far?

Not too long ago, Rodney king was brutally beat by police because he was suspected to be under a certain drug. When interviewed, the cop said that he felt that Rodney was being a threat to himself and the other officers so they had to beat him down. However, this led to Rodney needing multiple face reconstruction surgeries. I feel that the police took this incident too far and that no person should ever have to get beaten up this much. In the first place, he was pulled over for speeding. The LAPD officer who beat him said they would treat anyone else like this, but when Rodneys friends and members of the black community were questioned, they said things like this happened almost every day and the only reason people know about this incident was because it was videotaped. This makes me wonder, how far is too far in regards to police brutality? I feel that one or two hits with the nightstick was enough. But when the officer kicked his head and beat him multiple times on the ankles, it's clearly shown that it was taken way too far. As a penalty for the police, I feel that they should be permanently kicked out from the police department. It is clear in the video that they beat up Rodney much more than they needed to. When they mentioned that he wanted to fight back, it was false and you can see that he is clearly trying to get away from being beaten up. Overall, I think that policee brutality in the Rodney case as taken too far. Nobody needs to get beaten as much as this and the police officer who does perform this act should be expelled from the department.

  1. I agree, they definitely took it way to far then they should have. From the videotape we can see that all Rodney was trying to do is escape because who wouldn't want to escape from that when ur brutally being hit by the police multiple times. He didn't deserve to be hit like that by the police when clearly all he was trying to do is fight for his life at that moment. I also think that the police officers who cross the line like this should definitely be expelled from the department.
