Bronx teen murder: Junior Guzman stabbing

On June 20th, 2018, a 15-year-old Lesandro "Junior" Guzman was just casually walking into a deli in the Bronx. Moments later he was dragged outside of the store by half a dozen gang members and fatally stabbed him in an attack that was caught on camera. As the men scrammed, escaping in a van, Junior tried running to the closest hospital but collapsed right across the street from the hospital and unfortunately couldn't make it and there he was pronounced dead. The suspects were later found and charged with second- degree murder and gang assault. After this tragedy happened, there was a video that went viral on the media where you can see right as Junior collapsed his friends and sisters were present as well as the police but they didn't do anything but sustain him and watch him bleed to death. Instead of running across the street where the hospital was, the police just stood there surrounding him without doing anything. So many people on the media were furious when they saw this but also because after they found the suspects who did this, one of them claimed they did not intend to target him and that they had mistaken him for someone else. This affected the whole community and therefore they started protesting "Justice for Junior". In the footage of the officers watching him bleed to death, in the background, you can hear his friends and sisters yelling "get him help" since the hospital  was right across the street but the officers just stood there not saying a word so by the time they did get help it was already too late. Do you think the police officers were just doing their job or could they have done better?

  1. The worst part of this case is that he was innocent and it was a form of mistaken identity. I think that you should also talk about the store owner who was right there. He did not do anything to stop the attack let alone do anything once her was stabbed.

  2. I think that even if it wasn't likely that Junior would survive the police officers still should have put forth the effort to reach the hospital. They failed to do their job in my opinion. I decided to research it more and found that there have been 13 suspects arrested for his murder. They also renamed a street in the Bronx in order to commemorate him.

  3. I think don't think that the police officers were doing their job because they could have potentially saved this victims life but instead they watched him die. Although, they might have seen the situation as dangerous and didn't want to engage, Junior was not a threat because he was clearly unable to defend himself and the suspects had fled.
