What Happened in the Ferguson Case?
On August 9, 2014, Michael Brown, a black teenager, was shot and killed by officer Darren Wilson. They were in Ferguson, St. Louis, and Brown was just walking down the street. Though there are many view points on this subject, and opinions about whether or not Wilson is actually guilty, the evidence is clear. Firstly, one out of two of the bullets fired was found in the driver's door of Officer Wilson's car. The second bullet was found to have grazed Brown's right thumb, which made sense, given that he had been shot at close range. There are many different opinions about what Mr. Brown's movements actually were the day he was shot. For example, some say that Brown didn't move towards Officer Wilson at all when he was shot. Others say that Wilson shot at Brown as he came closer to him. There seems to also be a misconception about whether or not Mr. Brown was ever actually inside Officer Wilson's police car. Some people say that Mr. Brown punched Officer Wilson just before he was shot.
The jury in the case, which was made up of three blacks and nine whites, ultimately ruled that Officer Wilson was not guilty in the shooting of Michael Brown. This decision sparked anger in many people in Ferguson, and around the country, who thought that Officer Wilson was indeed guilty. What, if any, are your thoughts on this subject? Do you think that Officer Wilson should have been charged with murdering Michael Brown?
